Honeycomb panels are commonly chosen
for their high strength to weight ratio and lower cost compared
to laminate panels. Because of its excellent dimensional stability
at elevated temperatures, very low coefficient of thermal expansion,
and its light weight, the composite tooling industry uses honeycomb
panels for eggcrate, truss, and master model back-up structures
requiring elevated heat cycles.
Other uses include a wide variety of
applications requiring a flat, stiff, high strength panel at minimum
weight such as sub flooring, scaffolding for temporary work environments,
ceiling panels, decking, partitions/walls, light weight boxes and
storage containers, bulkheads, display boards and signs.
